Plantations & Agribusiness
With 543,579 hectares of plantation land in Malaysia and Indonesia, Sime Darby Plantation is the world’s largest listed plantations company and the world’s number one palm oil originator, accounting for about six per cent of global palm oil production. The Group has a significant presence in both upstream and downstream palm oil activities.
The principal operations of the Plantation Division can be grouped into 3 categories:
- Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) production;
- FFB milling which processes FFB into Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Palm Kernel Oil (PKO); and
- Downstream refinery of CPO and PKO into value-added products.
The Division’s downstream activities comprise of oils and fats businesses that are both food and non-food based.
Under its food-based operations, the Division has edible oils and fats refineries in the Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, South Africa, Morocco and Bangladesh. Under its non-food based operations, the Division’s involvement is in oleochemicals.
