Sime Darby Rewards 170 Top Students From Its Pintar School Adoption Programme

Press Release

PENANG, 10 March 2008 – One hundred and seventy students from 23 schools under Sime Darby’s PINTAR School Adoption programme received awards for their excellent performance in the recent Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examinations.

They received their awards from Sime Darby at the Anugerah Citra Cemerlang inaugural awards ceremony held here today. The students were handed a cash prize each and a certificate, while all participating schools were presented with a commemorative plaque.

“Poverty should not be a hindrance in achieving excellence in education. Sime Darby is committed towards developing sustainable futures for all our stakeholders hence we believe that all students should be given equal opportunities to prove and improve themselves,” said Sime Darby President & Group Chief Executive Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zubir Murshid.

He said that Sime Darby is proud and honoured to be part of the PINTAR initiative and will continue to support the schools, in their effort to promote academic excellence and also in terms of encouraging the development of soft skills, sports and curricular activities.

Sime Darby’s PINTAR School Adoption Programme was conceived as a direct response to the Government’s call to corporations to play a more active part in nurturing and developing human capital in the country. This programme was developed with the objective of supporting, empowering and encouraging educational development.

Since it began in December 2006, the Sime Darby PINTAR School Adoption Programme has expanded to include schools from Penang, Kedah, Perak, Perlis and Kelantan.

The programme centres around five core strategies, namely student development, teacher development programmes, parent development programmes, community development programmes and school sponsorship. Through these programmes various measures are put in place to enhance and improve educational achievement of all students especially those from lower income families.
