Energy
In Energy, the division specialises in the oil and gas, engineering services and power industries. With operations in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, it has a collective business experience of over 20 years of proven track record.
Its Oil & Gas Business Unit is involved in the design, procurement, fabrication, load-out, installation, operation and maintenance support of offshore structures for the oil and gas industry. With capabilities to deliver a complete work package of Engineering, Procurement, Installation & Commissioning (“EPIC”) for offshore platforms and pipelines, it continues to service clients both local and internationally. Its fabrication yard is situated in Pasir Gudang, Johor, Malaysia with a total working area of 95 acres and an annual capacity of 45,000 MT.
Its Engineering Services Business Unit is engaged in numerous business activities. From systems integration, calibration, sale of scientific and meteorological weather radar systems and equipments, to design, supply and installation of air-conditioning plants, integration of perimeter intrusion detection systems and vault doors, it continues to provide a range of products and solutions that are of quality and meet international standards.
The Power Business Unit has power plants situated in Port Dickson, Malaysia and the Laem Chabang Industrial Estate in Chonburi, Thailand. Its Port Dickson power plant operates four gas turbines in open-cycle mode to provide Tenaga Nasional Bhd with a peaking capacity of 440MW. The Laem Chabang power plant operates a combined cycle gas turbine co-generation plant with capacity to produce 103MW of power and 50 tonnes per hour of steam. It sells 60 per cent of its power output to EGAT, the national utility company of Thailand. The remaining 40 per cent of its power output and the entire steam production is sold to industrial customers within the Laem Chabang Industrial Estate.
Utilities
In Utilities, the division aims to establish a strong portfolio of investments in the utilities and infrastructure sector. Its current investments include a bulk cargo port, as well as a water treatment business in the Shandong Province in China. Moving forward, it is focused on expanding this portfolio to the various regions where Sime Darby has business presence.
In Malaysia, it is currently reviewing a number of infrastructure investment opportunities emerging from the growth plans targeted under the 9th Malaysian Plan and other development corridors such as the Northern Corridor Economic Region.
